Remember, remember the 5th of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...
On the 5th of November 1605 Guy Fawkes was found in the cellars of the Houses of Parliament with a load of gunpowder. He was sentenced to death after being tried as a traitor, with his accomplices, for plotting against the government. Hung drawn and quartered. Nasty stuff.
A year later the poem above was written, as a reminder to the nation, that treason would not be forgotten about.
So every year, on November the 5th, we celebrate with a big fire, plenty of firework displays, and of course the burning of effigies of Guy Fawkes. When i was younger we used to make the effigies (kinda like scarecrows) and lay him on the side of the street yelling "Penny for the guy penny for the guy" in a lame attemp to make some... well, pennies i guess. Never really worked that well.
So tonight i will get drunk, infront of a big fire, and watch fireworks go off in the night sky whilst eating greasy food. In 'celebration' of some guy who tried to blow up parliament... hell.. its a party, im there!!!

I don't understand the celebration thing. But--a party is a party is a party. As long as food and booze are available--people will go anywhere! Have a good time War!
